What Is the Difference Between a Residential and Commercial Electrician?
What Is a Residential Electrician?
A residential electrician works exclusively in residential, home, properties to install, inspect, and maintain electrical components.
The electrical contractors at Apple City Electric have what it takes to handle your residential electrical project. We have the equipment needed to complete all of the work in the shortest time possible.
What Is a Commercial Electrician?
Commercial electrical service refers to any services including installing safety and security systems, lighting, and miscellaneous components in a commercial area such as schools, office buildings, hospitals, and multi-family complexes that involves electricity.
The Apple City Electric team provides commercial electrical services such as panel inspections, knob and tube wiring, GFCI outlet installation, and basic troubleshooting. We also handle industrial control panels, LED retrofit, and systems integration. Our electrical contractors are committed to providing our customers with quality electrical work.
Work Environments
Residential electricians install, repair, and update wiring systems, power outlets, light fixtures, circuit boards, and electrical systems in residential properties. These properties include single-family and multi-family properties.
Commercial electricians install, repair, or update electrical systems and other components, like generators, transformers, lighting, and receptacles in commercial buildings. Including resorts, hotels, industrial facilities, school and public buildings, and retail stores.
Responsibilities
Residential electricians perform various tasks like home wiring, electrical repairs, ceiling fan installation, electrical panel replacement, recessed lighting installation, showcase lighting installation, and general electrical service and repair.
Commercial electricians are experts at installing recessed lighting, heavier gauge electrical wiring, new lighting fixtures and electrical components, electrical panel repairs, upgrades and maintenance, and lighting retrofits for more energy-efficient LED lighting.
Power
Residential electricians work with low voltage systems between 120V and 240V. Commercial electricians work with higher voltage systems between 120V and 480V.
Apple City Electric provides commercial and residential electrical services to homeowners and businesses throughout Central Washington.
What Is the Difference Between Residential and Commercial Installation?
Wiring
The wiring in commercial buildings is usually protected inside conduits and is installed in open spaces for easy access. Conversely, the wiring in residential buildings is protected inside layers of plastic sheathing to protect anyone from accidentally contacting the wires.
Phase Design
Residential wiring systems usually have less current running through it. It uses a single-phase power model that consists of three cables: the negative, positive, and ground wires. Commercial systems need a network of wires that can carry large amounts of current, since it uses a three-phase power model.
License
A commercial electrician is required to undertake a series of certified commercial apprenticeship programs to prove their skill set. A residential electrician only needs state licensing and a license by a relevant local authority.
It is extremely important that you have the right type of wiring installation for your residential or commercial property. At Apple City Electric, we have a team of trained, experienced, and professional electrical contractors who can install the right type of wiring for your property type.
Why Should You Hire a Professional Electrician?
Quality Tools and Equipment
Installations require specialized equipment. Professional electricians have access to specialized equipment and tools not found in your local big box store, and they know how to use them correctly and efficiently.
Safe and High-Quality Service
Home and business owners sometimes take the “do it yourself” route to deal with electrical issues. We advise against this as you may not have the skills and experience to handle such a dangerous job or make a mistake that could lead to property damage, code violations, or safety hazards.
Hiring a residential or commercial electrician is best because they can guarantee safe repairs and installations. A professional contractor also has the training and experience needed to perform electrical work in adherence to applicable codes.
We Handle All Types of Electric Work
Our master electricians handle all varieties of tasks ranging from repairing switched outlets to installing spa wiring and ensuring exterior landscape lighting safety.
The services provided by Apple City Electric are top-notch, and we have the expertise, reliability, credibility, and years of experience to work on your project.
